FORENSIC SOCIAL WORK & HUMAN SERVICE PRACTICE

May 10-30, 2027 | 9 hours | Online | Asynchronous
Instructor: Shawna Paris, ONS, KC, PhDc, MSW, RSW-CS, BCCH听

Pre-requisites: Forensic Social Work 1, Microcredential Module 1, Forensic Social Work 2, Microcredential Module 2, Forensic Social Work 3, Microcredential Module 3

OVERVIEW

The Capstone is the culminating component of the Forensic Social Work & Human Service Practice Microcredential.

Unlike the individual microcredential modules, which assess specific areas of applied practice, the Capstone requires the learner to integrate legal knowledge, ethical reasoning, forensic practice skills, professional documentation, interviewing, the micro-credential鈥檚 core competencies, critical analysis, and professional judgment within a single complex practice situation.

The Capstone provides evidence that the learner has achieved the program-level competencies of the micro-credential, rather than merely completing a series of courses.

The Capstone project will be comprised of a case analysis, applied practice activity, written forensic practice product, reflective practice analysis, and a 20-30 minute virtual oral review and defence.

Completion requires more than attendance or participation. The learner must demonstrate the required competencies through an assessed final practice exercise and a formal final evaluation.

EVALUATION STANDARD

To maintain the integrity of the credential, successful completion of the Capstone requires demonstration of competency at a level appropriate to a university-issued micro-credential.

  • The assessment will be criterion-referenced so that learners are evaluated against predetermined competencies.
  • The assessment will be practice-based so that learners demonstrate what they can do with their knowledge.
  • The assessment will be integrative and require learners to combine legal, ethical, analytical, interpersonal, cultural, accessibility, and professional competencies.
  • The assessment will be evidence-informed, reflective, authentic, and verifiable.
  • The structured oral review and defence will provide an additional opportunity to confirm the learner鈥檚 individual understanding and competency.

This Module is not a standalone course. It is part of the Microcredential: Forensic Social Work & Human Service Practice pathway.
