Able@Dal orientation

Able@Dal is an orientation program specifically designed for first-year 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß and King's students who are receiving academic accommodations due to a disability or medical condition.

Led by staff, faculty, and students, Able@Dal focuses on skill development and learning strategies that are essential to your success as a student.

Why you should attend

  • Hear first-hand from students about what it means to be a student with accommodations.

  • Develop a better understanding of accommodations at 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß and King's and how to ask for support.

  • Hear first-hand from professors on classroom expectations and ways to be successful.Ìý

  • Learn how to request and use your accommodations and different supports on campus.

  • Meet your access advisor and the rest of the Student Accessibility Centre Team.

Able@Dal is a fun, supportive orientation designed for incoming 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß and King’s students who use (or are thinking about using) academic accommodations. Join Access Advisors, staff, and fellow students for a relaxed, informative session that will help you start your university journey feeling confident, prepared, and connected. Whether you’re coming straight from high school or just want to learn more, this is your space to ask questions, hear real stories, and get set up for success.

The Able@Dal Family & Friends Session is designed to help parents, family, and other supports confidently support their student as they transition to university with academic accommodations. Led by Access Advisors, students, and members of the campus support team, this session provides a clear overview of how accommodations work, what students can expect, and how they collaborate with an Access Advisor to create a personalized plan. You’ll hear real student perspectives, learn how supports are accessed, and gain practical strategies to encourage your student’s independence while supporting their success throughout their first year, all while connecting to 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß’s supportive campus community.

Join the Able@Dal Graduate Session to explore accessibility at 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß from the perspective of incoming graduate students. Whether you're new to Dal or preparing for a teaching assistantship, this session will provide practical guidance on supporting students registered with the Student Accessibility Centre. Led by knowledgeable Access Advisors, this session highlights inclusive practices and shares strategies to help you succeed in both your academic and teaching roles.

This engaging virtual session introduces students to the Able@Dal Assistive Technology services and essential tools available on campus, including Microsoft Office, Read&Write, and a range of apps designed to support studying, organization, and productivity. Whether you’re aiming to stay organized, strengthen your reading and writing, or simplify everyday academic tasks, this session will equip you with the skills and confidence to start the year strong.
