The Association for Canadian Jewish Studies is seeking an undergraduate student intern with a keen interest in the study of Canadian Jewish history, culture, and society to work on a variety of projects supporting the ACJS鈥檚 mission to advance public knowledge on the Jewish experience in Canada.

The internship is an opportunity to contribute to two areas of focus for the ACJS鈥攑ublic education and oral history research鈥攇ain administrative and research experience inside a growing non-profit organization, and work alongside Canadian Jewish studies specialists as part of a lively, collaborative team. The intern will support the ACJS鈥檚 virtual public education program and an oral history project devoted to contemporary Canadian Jewish politics.

Internship Details

The position is for the 2026鈥�2027 academic year, beginning the week of September 28, 2026, and ending the week of April 26, 2027, with the possibility of extension through the summer months. The position will be remote and average 3鈥�4 hours per week, depending on the time of year, scope of work, and project-specific demands. The ACJS executive team will determine how work is allocated in conversation with the intern. The position pays a stipend of $3,000.

The intern will be invited to participate in the life of the ACJS, such as contributing insight via the organization鈥檚 Microsoft Team and joining executive-wide and project team meetings where necessary.

Responsibilities will be divided into two categories:

1. Public Education

• Providing in-class technical support for all sessions of four, four-week online public education courses about Canadian Jewish history and society (total of 42 instruction hours). Involves monitoring virtual classroom (Zoom) for technical issues as they arise.

Class dates are as follows, all in 2027: January 11, 18, 25, and February 1 (6:00-7:30pm EST); February 10, 17, 24, and March 3 (6:00-7:30pm EST); March 9, 16, 23, and 30 (6:00-7:30pm EST); and April 5, 12, 19, and 26 (7:00- 8:30pm EST).

The intern must commit to attending all class sessions.

2. Oral History

• 聽Transcribing and editing up to twenty (20) oral history interviews (with AI assistance), formatting transcripts, and cataloguing metadata for archival preservation.
• Assisting with secondary source research in the creation of digital exhibits to accompany two oral history projects. Work may include compiling data for historical timelines, writing short texts, annotations, and/or captions, and liaising with archivists to acquire relevant archival documents or images for online publication.

Experience and Qualifications

• Must be in third or fourth year of undergraduate degree; previous experience with Jewish studies preferred but not required.
• Experience with Zoom and facility managing and troubleshooting relevant technical challenges.
• Previous experience with oral history preferred but not required.
• Must be comfortable editing long texts while following consistent style and formatting directions.
• Previous experience with primary source historical research preferred but not required; must have experience with the conventions of researching and writing scholarship.
• Comfortable in a collaborative work environment, sharing ideas, and being part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and capacity for executing small tasks and larger projects independently.
