Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

The School of Health Sciences (SHS) recognizes that a deliberate and equitable admissions process is required to increase the admission, support, and graduation of students who self-identify as belonging to historically underrepresented groups: persons of Indigenous ancestry (Inuit, Métis, and First Nations – especially Mi’kmaq), African Nova Scotians, African Canadians (especially from the Maritimes), and individuals who encounter significant barriers in their pursuit of health education.

Applicants wishing to apply under the SHS Equitable Admissions Policy must indicate on the self-identification section of the application form. Applicants must meet all admission requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enroll to start in January?

No. Enrollment is only offered in September of each year. Enrolling for a different start date is not possible.

Is your program offered online?

No. Some courses may be offered online, but there is a requirement for in-person attendance of most classes.

Is your program offered as part-time studies?

No. Due to the nature of our program, part-time studies are not available. Students must enroll as full-time students.

Do you accept transfer students from other Health Sciences programs?

No. The School of Health Sciences does not accept direct transfer students from other Health Sciences programs. Interested students must submit an application for entry.

Do you maintain a waitlist for the BHSc program?

Due to the competitive nature of BHSc programs, many applicants do not receive an offer. Each discipline maintains a waitlist, and we will continue to monitor and send offers as seats become available throughout the Spring and Summer, as late as the first week of September.

Waitlisted applicants who do not receive an offer within this time period must reapply for the following cycle if they wish to be considered for admission again. The waitlist resets annually.

Do previous Dal students have a priority over those with previous credits from other post-secondary institutions?

No. Applicants who have graduated from or who are currently attending Dal do not have priority or preference over applicants from other post-secondary institutions.

Can I have my qualifications, transcripts, and other documentation evaluated in advance of the official application being submitted?

No. The program will only review transcripts, qualifications, and other documentation once an application has been formally submitted during the admissions period.

I am a previous/current 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß student. Do I need to upload a copy of my 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß transcript with my application?

No, you do not need to upload a transcript if you studied at 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß. We can access your transcripts directly through DalOnline. However, you must indicate that you are a current or former 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß student in your Slate portal when listing your schools. This allows us to retrieve and review your transcript.

Exception: If you completed or are upgrading courses through 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß Open Learning, we cannot access those transcripts. In this case, you will need to upload them yourself.

What is the tuition cost for the BHSc program?

Please refer to the Fee Calculator provided on 17³Ô¹ÏÍøÔÚÏß's Money Matters webpage.

There are also several non-tuition expenses associated with the BHSc program. Please refer to our additional costs webpage for details.

I missed the deadline! Can I still apply?

No. Applicants are expected to be fully aware of all important dates and deadlines.

What information is used to determine seat offerings?

The School of Health Sciences considers application completeness, residency requirements, our equitable admissions policy, and the applicant's total admissions score (calculated using GPA and non-academic requirements outcomes at a ratio of 80%:20%) to determine seat offerings to our BHSc program.

If my application was unsuccessful, can I find out which components were the cause of this outcome?

The School of Health Sciences does not disclose specific information that lead to an unsuccessful outcome. Admissions decisions are based on having a complete application, GPA, and non-academic requirements.

I have been accepted to the BHSc program. Does the School of Health Sciences consider deferral requests?

The School of Health Sciences may consider deferral requests upon acceptance of admissions offers into the BHSc program on a case-by-case basis.

Deferrals may be considered in cases of unforeseen and significant circumstances, including but not limited to:

  • Serious medical or health-related issues affecting the applicant or an immediate family member
  • Significant personal or family emergencies
  • Military or national service obligations

Applicants may be required to provide documentation to verify the circumstances outlined in their deferral request.

For further information on how to request a deferral, please visit the Defer Admissions webpage.

I am not a resident of the Atlantic Provinces. Does Dal offer seats to non-Atlantic Residents?

Due to residency restrictions and limited capacity, this rarely occurs. Seats may be offered to non-Atlantic residents only if there are insufficient eligible applicants from within the region.

I am an international student. Are international students considered for admission?

Due to residency restrictions and limited capacity, international applicants will not be considered for admission to the BHSc program.
